Ticket for Reform at Conference

This year, State Conference will be electing a new Admin Committee, a new Rules Committee, etc.

It would be great if we can get some rank and file candidates up, people dedicated to rank and file democracy.  But it won’t just happen.  We need to pick some good people, and help them get known.

Anyone willing to help us do that is asked to come to a workshop on Sunday.

The workshop will be examining:
– how can we, the rank and file, evaluate potential candidates for our ticket?
– how can our candidates make themselves more widely known?
– should we expect our candidates to make some sort of pledge?

The workshop will be from 12:30 to 2:30, Sunday the 29th of May, at Alexandria Town Hall. (73 Garden Street, Alexandria – a short walk from Redfern Station. On street parking generally available.)

Would this date conflict with the Balmain Branch Celebrations, on the same day? A lot of people might be interested in attending both… such as myself.

Do we know who is currently on the Admin Committee? Might be good to know who they all are, backgrounds, how long they have been seat warming, whether they are from right or left unions. Could be good (if they are union bosses) to have a look at their current audits on the Fair Work Website which has their membership numbers and what numbers they affiliate to the ALP on. Believe me some of them are stupid enough to list different number. A union I resigned from (for this very reason) affiliates to the ALP on 11’000 but has declared 9000 on his returns and a recent ballot he has just over 8000, a missing 3000 members in just over a year and thousands of dollars presumably siphoned off to the ALP or other places! Someone should really do this work.
