Annerley Branch has formally welcomed the recommendations of the ALP National Review, resolving to support the reforms and calling on national conference delegates to do the same.
In a unanimously adopted resolution, the April general meeting of the Branch voiced strong endorsement of the ‘general direction of the 31 recomendations’, which were released publicly in February. Despite the support, the Branch did, however, articulate concerns over the suggested ‘open primary’ system for internal pre-selections. In the resolution, members raised valid concerns that there was a possibility that open primary proposal could be subject to abuse.
The resolution also encourages national conference delegates to consider any recommendations which will ensure a ‘democratic, inclusive and participatory model of organisation’. It is anticipated that the reforms will be debated at the December National Conference.
